Black and Gold Allure This piece was sort of a departure for me. I usually work more loosely, but here I let the structure take over mixing sharp geometry with a more organic background. I started experimenting with black (which I normally don't do), then some gold splashes, some sage green not knowing where it would land. But as I kept building it, it started to feel like something refined yet untamed. That tension made me want to keep going although I felt like it was done and didn't work to overwork it. I added a spot of dark red right in the middle- and it was done.
The contrast of bold linear forms with sweeping brush textures gives the piece both movement and control. There’s a kind of seductive edge to it, which I like.
